Modular multilevel inverter configuration with lesser switch counts

Abstract:

Multilevel inverter lesser switch counts with multiple input DC sources develops AC output at desired voltage and frequency. Nowadays the applications of multi-level inverters are increased in low and medium voltage distribution systems and industrial usages to obtain several benefits such as, power quality improvement and better reliability. This work proposed a multilevel inverter circuit which is operating in symmetric manner. In terms of switch counts and the total harmonic distortion (THD) in the output waveform, this proposed configuration is found better as compared with the available cascaded configurations. For generating switching signals, modified sinusoidal pulse width modulation (SPWM) scheme on the basis of balanced voltage (VBB-PWM) is adopted. The efficacy of this multilevel inverter is presented by MATLAB R2019a simulation.
